TASMANIA WALKING TOURS

Cradle Mountain “Overland Track” Trek

The classic bushwalk through the Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park

The Overland track is Australia’s premier extended bushwalk. The Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park is renowned for its beauty, featuring abundant wildlife, rare and unusual vegetation and dramatic scenery. Starting at Waldhiem, situated beneath Cradle Mountain, we head south for the Wilderness Adventure of a lifetime.

We follow a moderate graded trail for 70kms finishing our journey with a ferry crossing of Lake St Clair. We allow seven days, averaging of 12km per day, to walk the track so as to best appreciate highlights and side trips along the way. Passing Lakes and mountains such as Barn Bluff, Pelion West, Mountain Oakleigh and the Geryons we savour this wild remote area in the company of our small independent group.

No special skills are necessary to walk the Overland Track although a good level of general fitness is required. Our schedule will permit time to visit the summits of some of the highest mountains in Tasmanian, possibly even Mount Ossa Tasmania’s highest. Our experienced guides will help to bring the track alive for you with their local knowledge and enthusiasm for the Tasmanian Wilderness.

Cradle and the Walls of Jerusalem
The best of Tasmania’s highland National Parks

Experience wonderland. The Walls of Jerusalem National Park in the Tasmanian highlands is adjacent to Cradle Mountain and combining the two areas in this 6 day trip offers a great chance to get a real feel for Tassie’s unique harsh, yet fragile high country.

This trip incorporates a couple of nights in cabins and three nights under the stars in snug 2 person Macpac tents. Our days fill with walks that offer the best that conditions allow. We endeavor to climb the abrupt slopes of Cradle Mountain and take in the dramatic peaks and deep shadowy lakes all from our cabins within the National Park. Then we transfer to the Mersey Valley where we don backpacks and make our way up into the Walls of Jerusalem National Park and our base camp beneath majestic King David’s Peak.

Wonder at living fossils in the numerous tarns. Investigate evidence of ice caps scouring the land and discover floral links to the Gondwanan supercontinent. Step into this environment of stark contrasts, let your mind conjure images of ancient faces from knotted pines and swirling dancers in the lush green glades between imposing rock peaks.

Relax in the warm evening hues as your guides prepare sumptuous revitalising meals then retire to your warm clean tent to restore your weary limbs for another day of marvelous trekking.
